About the Class:

No prior knowledge or equipment is needed, and it is suitable for most abilities and ages.

The class teaches the White Crane style of Tai Chi led by Char.
Char is a passionate Tai Chi teacher who aims to provide instruction while people move through learning at their own pace. She is keen to teach anyone who is interested in Tai Chi, and believes it can be for all abilities. She trained with White Crane Scotland for over a decade and continues to develop her training with the school to this day.

Tai Chi is a flowing and gentle form of exercise that incorporates slow movement and breathing.  Char's Tai Chi class is focused primarily on relaxation through calming motion and breathing. We practice flowing movements that, over time, slot together into a Tai Chi form or sequence. This is accompanied by breathing practice that can steady the nervous system and a busy mind. Building these two skills together can help support the body by gently strengthening and mobilising muscles and joints, and developing balance. Tai Chi exercises can create a sense of well-being in the body, leaving people feeling calm and energized.

Participants should wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.

The class consists of:

  • A series of mobility and warm-up exercises.

  • Qi Gong breathing and movement which help settle the nervous system and can provide a sense of grounding.

  • Each week practice the Tai Chi form, gradually building a form of flowing movements or form.

  • Class comes to a close with a few calming breathing exercises.
